EPHESIANS CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION TO THIS STUDY

The purpose of this study work is to give you the original Greek language words and definitions for all the key words in this selected Bible text. This work does not make any effort to interpret the text in question, though some interpretation may occur naturally as a result of the study. The English translation used is the King James (Authorized) Version, not because it is the best translation available, but because I just plain prefer it for study!

All Scripture text will be presented in normal cased lettering, and all notes within the text will be in TRUE TYPE FONT, as shown. This (I hope) will allow you to avoid confusion between God's Word and my notes. As I update this website, I will continue to embellish the text so that anyone using NETSCAPE or MSIE 3.0 or higher will be able to read the document easier. Greek tenses are abbreviated as follows:

If you discover obvious errors (as I am human, and do make mistakes), please let me know. Do not contact me to argue about the doctrinal differences that you may have with my teaching. I do not argue Theology with anyone, so all Legalists, cultists, and others with extremist views, please save your (and my) time. If you want to discuss your doctrinal differences, or share a viewpoint, please contact me at Didaskalos Ministries. I am not so arrogant as to think I know it all, or even 1% of what the scripture teaches.

* Note: Verses with no additional notes are shown in diminished text. Expected teaching sessions (guides for the teacher) are shown in gray boxes, as follows:

Begin Session #1: Ephesians 1:1-2 - Introduction

Ephesians 1:1

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will (THELEMA, will, purpose, design) of God,

Paul writes this letter from a Roman prison, around 64 AD. The actions the Apostle made which insured His imprisonment are chronicled in:
Acts 21: 10-14 "And as we tarried [there] many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.  [11] And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver [him] into the hands of the Gentiles.  [12] And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.  [13] Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.  [14] And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done."
God had spoken to the Apostles through Agabus before. In fact, it was he who warned of the coming deprivation of the Saints in Acts 11:28-30, and by whom God caused the Apostles to start a collection/ fund for the poor. His word was the Lord's Word, and this had been proven before. When the Word of the Lord came warning Paul against entering Jerusalem, Paul perceived the words as human driven (What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus) rather than a legitimate warning from the Lord. Thus he went to Jerusalem, and in doing so guaranteed his imprisonment.

But herein lies the great truth of Scripture. Paul's mission as an APOSTOLOS, a hand chosen messenger of Christ, was to carry the Gospel of the Cross wherever the Lord led him, and to avoid those places where the Spirit forbade. Yet, even in apparent disobedience, the Lord used Paul during his imprisonment to write inspired letters to the Church Age. Though imprisoned because he was not perfect (and who is), God still used him as an APOSTOLOS. Thus he starts his letter,

"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will (THELEMA, will, purpose, design) of God"

Reminding us that:

Romans 11:29  "For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance."
What God has decreed by His will WILL come to pass, even when we, in our humanity, go against that will. Though we may have free will and declare that free will as supreme, often our will is thwarted - in spite of ourselves - in order that God's Plan be maintained. Just as Paul was Privileged, Possessed, and Picked, we as believers are Privileged (to be the children of God), Possessed (by Jesus Christ), and Picked (not because we were better than others, but because we responded to the Call with a "Yes, Lord"

(Application) 1. How can I find comfort in the example that God has shown me through Paul?

to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

Ephesians 1:2

Grace [be] to you, and peace, from God our Father, and [from] the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the above texts we see that God our Father called us who are believers to be saints and faithful, and also calls us to walk in a state of grace and peace as befits that calling. Look at the first part:

... to the saints which are at Ephesus ...

"Saints" is the Greek {hagios  [pronounced hag'-ee-os]}, which means "set apart ones, sanctified ones, marked for special use". Saints are not, as the Papacy teaches, a certain group of super-Christian, all above the rest, but Saints are us, all of us who are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. We are not saints because we are perfect in ourselves - Paul himself was not perfect in himself, and yet he was an APOSTOLOS - but we are "set apart from this world by God" because are "new creatures" by Spirit rebirth.

(application) 2. Why am I a "Saint"?

  • I am a saint because I have been _________ ___________ (2 Corinthians 5:17)

  •

2 Corinthians 5:17  "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

  • As a "set apart one" I have been called to be faithful to __________ ___________ (Ephesians 6:5-8; 4:24-25)

  •

Ephesians 6:5-8  "Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; [6]  Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; [7]  With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: [8]  Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free."

Ephesians 4:24-25  "And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. [25]  Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another."

  • As a "set apart one" I have been called to live a ____________ life in this world (1 Peter 1:14-20)

  •

1 Peter 1:14-20  "As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: [15]  But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; [16]  Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. [17]  And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: [18]  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; [19]  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: [20]  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you"

.. to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: ...

You cannot be a Saint unless you are "faithful in Christ Jesus". That is, unless you have believed in Jesus Christ, believed that what He did on the Cross was for YOU, and entrusted your salvation to that same Jesus. The phrase "in Christ Jesus", or "in Christ", occurs 27 times in Ephesians, 77 times in the Church Epistles. When we are "in Christ", that is, when we have placed our faith in Jesus and Jesus has placed His Spirit IN US. Because we are "in Christ Jesus" we share certain things with our Savior.

(application) 3. What are some of the things we as believers have because we are "in Christ"?

  • Redemption, Wisdom, Righteousness, and Sanctification (Romans 3:24; 1 Corinthians 1:30-31)

  •

Romans 3:24  "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"

1 Corinthians 1:30-31  "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: [31]  That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."

  • Protected from condemnation of the Law (Romans 8:1-2; Galatians 2:4-5)

  •

Romans 8:1-2  "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [2]  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

Galatians 2:4-5  "And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: [5]  To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you."

  • The beneficial love of God in all that I do (Romans 8:39)

  •

Romans 8:39  "Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

  • United together as Family of God (Romans 12:5; Galatians 3:28)

  •

Romans 12:5  "So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another."

Galatians 3:28  "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."

  • Victorious Living : (2 Corinthians 2:14)

  •

2 Corinthians 2:14  "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place."

  • A holy calling, purpose, and Grace: (2 Timothy 1:9-10)

  •

2 Timothy 1:9-10  "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, [10] But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:"

Ephesians 1:2

Grace [be] to you, and peace ...

"Grace" among humans means (1) a quality in a thing that makes something beautiful (like the smell of a rose), (2) anything that has loveliness  (thought, act, word, person), or (3) a gift given by a friend. Grace does not mean license to sin

(application) 4. Is Grace the same thing as license to sin? Now that I am saved, am I freed to sin without guilt? Titus 2:11-15)

  • Titus 2:11-15  "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, [12]  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; [13]  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; [14]  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. [15]  These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee."

(application) 5. What then is Grace, and why is this one of the blessings that Gods gives only to those who have accepted Christ as Savior?

  • Grace is the _____ blessings that God has given to us (Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:7)

  •

Ephesians 1:7  "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace"

Ephesians 2:7-9  "That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.  [8]  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  [9]  Not of works, lest any man should boast."

  • Grace is also the ______ blessings God gives us on this earth (Philippians 4:19; Acts 14:17)

  •

Philippians 4:19  "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

Acts 14:17  "Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."

  • We cannot earn nor deserve Grace. Though we were "without strength" and "ungodly" (Romans 5:6), "sinners" and "enemies of the Cross" (Romans 5:8, 10), we receive all the rich blessings of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Because we are in Jesus, in Christ, in a relationship with the Son, we are in Grace. This is because of God's bounty, not our own inherent worthiness. (Titus 3:4-7)

  •

Titus 3:4-7  "But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared,  [5]  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; [6]  Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior;  [7]  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

  • Grace is the only way that man can be saved, and this saving Grace only comes through Jesus Christ our Lord: (Romans 5:15-19; 2 Corinthians 8:9)

  •

Romans 5:15-19   "But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. [16]  And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification.  [17]  For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)  [18]  Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.  [19]  For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous."

2 Corinthians 8:9  "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich."

Begin Session #2: Ephesians 1:3 - To Be Blessed

Ephesians 1:3

Blessed (eulogetos [yoo-log-ay-tos'], to sing praises to, praise Him!) [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed (eulogeo [yoo-log-eh'-o], given us reason to praise Him, favored us) us with all spiritual blessings (pneumatikos [pnyoo-mat-ik-os'] + eulogia [yoo-log-ee'-ah], bounty, the thing which brings the praises) in heavenly [places] in Christ:

Now the Apostle lists the reasons that we who are believers (1) should consider ourselves blessed, and thus (2) sing praises or blessings to our Father and Lord Jesus Christ. We are blessed of God because He who is our God is a God of blessing or prosperity. Before we can focus on this, we need to understand blessings and what this word means to the Church Age believer.

Psalms 34:8-9  "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. [9]  O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him."

In the Age of Israel, God showed His blessing on man by physical blessing. Though man was given spiritual blessing, spiritual blessing in this life was temporal rather than permanent. For instance, God gave Israel a number of physical covenants, such as the Abrahamic Covenant:

Genesis 17:1-21  "And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. [2] And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. [3] And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, [4]  As for me, behold, my covenant [is] with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. [5] Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. [6] And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.  [7] And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.  [8]  And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.  [9] And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. [10] This [is] my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.  [11] And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.  [12] And he that is eight days old (this is when the coagulants of the blood are at their highest in the newborn child) shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which [is] not of thy seed.  [13] He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.  [14] And the the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.  [15] And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah [shall] her name [be].  [16] And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be [a mother] of nations; kings of people shall be of her.  [17] Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall [a child] be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?  [18] And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!  [19] And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, [and] with his seed after him.  [20] And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.  [21] But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year. [22] And he left off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham."

1. What are some of the elements that we see in the presentation of the Abrahamic Covenant from the dispensation of the Age of Israel? (Genesis 17:1-21)

a. This covenant was not immediately established, but Abraham had to meet certain conditions (Genesis 17:2)

(Genesis 17:2) "And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly."

b. Blessing from the covenant demanded certain actions on the part of the children of Abraham (Genesis 17:10)

(Genesis 17:10) "This [is] my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. "

c. The covenant was everlasting insofar as the conditions were kept by the children of Abraham (Genesis 17:13-14)

(Genesis 17:13-14) "He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.  [14] And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant. "

d. The covenant, signified by a physical act of circumcision, promised a physical, earthly blessing from God (Genesis 17:5-6)

(Genesis 17:5-6) "Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. [6] And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee."

e. Abraham and Sarah were given new names in this life to signify their physical blessed state from God the Father. (Genesis 17:4, 15)

(Genesis 17:4, ) "Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham ... As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah [shall] her name"

2. In the Age of Israel, the main blessing that came from God was ____________ rather than spiritual. Why is this? (Galatians 3:13-26)

Galatians 3:13-26  "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree: [14] That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.  [15] Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though [it be] but a man's covenant, yet [if it be] confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.  [16] Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.  [17] And this I say, [that] the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.  [18] For if the inheritance [be] of the law, [it is] no more of promise: but God gave [it] to Abraham by promise.  [19] Wherefore then [serveth] the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; [and it was] ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.  [20] Now a mediator is not [a mediator] of one, but God is one.  [21] [Is] the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.  [22] But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.  [23] But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.  [24] Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.  [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.  [26] For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus."

3.  We receive the "blessing of Abraham" (Galatians 3:14). What is this? Is it the land, or the spiritual blessing from God? Is it a physical thing, or the fact that we are "the children of God by Faith"? (Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:3-8; Galatians 3:7-9)

Genesis 15:6  And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Romans 4:3-8  "For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. [4]  Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.  [5]  But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.  [6] Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,  [7]  Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.  [8]  Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin."

Galatians 3:7-9 "Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. [8]  And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.  [9]  So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham."

4. Though we as believers in the Church Age can and do receive physical blessings from God our Father, the main thrust of our blessings are ________________.

a. The Temple we worship God in is our bodies, united in Ekklesia (fellowship of the Church), not in a building (1 Corinthians 6:19; Ephesians 2:19-22):

1 Corinthians 6:19  "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"

Ephesians 2:19-22  "Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;  [20]  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;  [21]  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:  [22]  In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."

b. We are drawn into relationship with Father through the indwelling Spirit, not by physical blessing:

Age of Israel: The Spirit could be lost by sin (Psalms 51:11-12):

Psalms 51:11-12  "Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.  [12]  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit."

Church Age: The Spirit is our "Seal" of Redemption (2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5; Ephesians 1:13-14):

2 Corinthians 1:22  "Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts."

2 Corinthians 5:5  "Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit."

Ephesians 1:13-14  "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [14]  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

Ephesians 1:3 "Blessed  [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings (pneumatikos [pnyoo-mat-ik-os'] + eulogia [yoo-log-ee'-ah], bounty, the thing which brings the praises) in heavenly [places] in Christ:"

5. Based on the truths we have just learned about blessings for the Church, we can say that:

a. Spiritual Blessings are of the Spirit. The carnal or soulish (unsaved) person is controlled by his world, but the spiritual person is controlled by the Holy Spirit of God (2 Corinthians 4:6-11; 1 Corinthians 2:14-16).

2 Corinthians 4:6-11  "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. [7]  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. [8] We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; [9]  Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; [10]  Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. [11]  For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh."

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  [15]  But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.  [16]  For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."

b. Spiritual blessings are the opposite of temporal blessings. They are permanent, perfect, and eternal, whereas temporal blessings pass away (1 Peter 1:22-25):

1 Peter 1:22-25  "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: [23]  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.  [24] For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:  [25]  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you."

c. Spiritual blessings are only found in Christ (1 John 2:15-17):

1 John 2:15-17  "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [16]  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. [17]  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."
