1. Background.
A. Author: The apostle Paul identifies himself as the writer of this letter (v.1).2. Paul's desire for the church at Corinth was for their spiritual blessings (v.2).B. Date Written: Sometime between 55 to 57 A.D.
C. Purpose:
1) Paul visited the Corinthian church after his first letter to help clear up the problems that he wrote about earlier.D. Key Word: "comfort" or "encouragement" (used 18 times).2) Paul had to follow up with this second letter to remind them of their financial commitment to the Saints in Judea, and to address the issue of false teachers.
A. Grace; God's divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life.II. The Source Of Our Comfort (v.3).B. Peace; spiritual soundness which is the result of God's grace.
2. God is the source of all comfort (v.3b).

I. Be Consistent In Your Christian Walk (1:12-14).
1. The reasons why people criticize.
A. For power or control.2. Keep your conscience morally pure (v.12a).1) Paul was probably criticized by false teachers in the Corinthian church (11:4, 13).B. Lack of spiritual maturity.2) This is the most common motive that is involved in church splits.

mean they are indecisive or that they cannot be trusted (vv.15-22).
2. Paul's real reasons for changing his plans (1:23-2:4, 12-13).
A. It was out of his consideration for the Corinthian church (1:23-2:4).B. It was because the Lord opened another door of opportunity for him at that time (vv.12-13).

1. Titus and the others were working in partnership with Paul and the

2. In view of all this, the Corinthians should likewise respond as partner's by opening their hearts and wallets to minister to their fellow Christians in Jerusalem (v.24).

1. Some ministries change with the winds of opinions.
2. Biblical ministries are consistent with God's Word in both words and deeds.
III. Is It Balanced? (vv.12-14).
1. Some ministries measure success based upon what others are doing
(v.12).
2. Biblical ministries recognize the limits that God sets (vv.13-14).
IV. Is It Honest? (vv.15-16).
1. Some ministries purposely seek to infringe upon another ministry's
work (v.15a).
2. Biblical ministries do not seek to infringe upon another ministry's work (vv.15b-16).
V. Is It Christ-Centered? (vv.17-18).
1. Some ministries seek worldly approval (v.18a).
2. Biblical ministries only seek the Lord's approval (vv.17, 18b).

I. They Jealously Guard The Bride Of Christ (vv.1-4).
1. Paul wanted to protect the Corinthian's spiritual purity for Christ
(vv.1-2).
A. Paul asks the Corinthians to put up with him as he indulges in boasting (v.1).2. Paul feared that the Corinthians might be deceived and be lead astray by the false teachers (vv.3- 4).B. Paul uses a metaphor of the Church being a virgin who is engaged to Christ (v.2).
A. Paul feared that the Corinthians could be easily deceived and lead astray (v.3).B. Paul feared for the Corinthians because they willingly accepted any false teaching that was presented to them (v.4).
II. They Are Secure In Their Position (vv.5-6).
1. Paul knew exactly who he was as an Apostle (v.5).
A. Wuest: "For I account myself as not being in even one thing inferior to these superfine apostles."2. Paul was totally aware of his human weaknesses and strengths (v.6).B. Paul in no way inferior to any apostle.
A. He knew that he wasn't a eloquent speaker (v.6a).B. He knew that his strength was in his teaching and the benefits that it brought the Corinthians (v.6b).
III. They Cannot Be Bought (vv.7-12).
1. Paul sacrificed his own comfort so that he could freely preach the
gospel (vv.7-10).
A. Some of the Corinthian's may have been embarrassed or upset because Paul didn't need their financial support (v.7).2. Paul's main reason for not asking for financial support (vv.11-12)B. Paul uses a figure of speech (a hyperbole; an over-stated exaggeration) to produce a word picture in the Corinthians' minds to emphasize that other churches had supported him while he ministered to the Corinthians (v.8).
C. Paul refused to ask for support from the Corinthians so as not to be a burden to them (v.9).
D. Paul was free to preach the gospel because he wasn't being restricted by their money (v.10).
A. Paul's motive was his love for the Corinthians (v.11).IV. They Will Expose False Teachers (vv.13-15).B. Paul did not want to be associated with the practice of the false teachers when it came to ministering to others (v.12).
A. Paul denounces the false teachers for what they were (v.13).2. The false teachers will receive the appropriate judgment according to the their works (v.15).B. Paul reveals their mentor (v.14).
A. Paul says that we shouldn't be surprised to hear people lie about who they are (v.15a).B. Because they are the servants of the father of lies (v.15b).

I. Fleshly Attitudes (vv.16-22).
1. Of foolish boasting (vv.16-19).
A. Paul answered the Corinthians according to their foolishness (vv.16-17).2. Of foolish following (vv.20-22).B. Paul resorts to sarcasm to point out the irony of the Corinthians foolishness (vv.18-19).
A. Paul gives a list of they type of men that the Corinthians were willing to put up with (v.20).B. The irony that Paul points out in all of this is, that if this is the standard behavior of someone who is a real spiritual leader then he had failed miserably (v.21).
C. Paul points out that it is not just one's heritage that made them qualified to be an apostle or a teacher (v.22).
II. Physical Hardships (vv.23-27, 32-33).
1. A false minister will not endure hardships for the sake of the gospel
(v.23).
A. Paul is about to point out the absurdity of the false apostles claims by their lack of actions (v.23a).2. A true minister will endure physical hardships for the sake of the gospel (vv.24-27, 32-33).B. Paul sums up the physical hardships that he had faced while pointing out that the false apostles had not (v.23b).
A. Paul now gives us the details of the hardships that he has faced during his ministry (vv.24-27).B. Paul had even faced death by preaching the gospel after his conversion in Damascus and had to be smuggled out of the city (vv.32-33; Acts 9:19-25).
III. Deep Concern For Others (vv.28-31).
1. A concern for others is the heaviest burden for a minister to bear
(vv.28-30).
A. Verses 28 and 29 are the key passage to this section of Scripture.2. A clear conscience is a minister's comfort in the midst of his burdens (v.31).B. Paul's boasting was not of power as the false apostles did, but in his weakness (v.30).
A. Paul was aware that his character was questioned and under attack.B. Paul also knew that God was fully aware of his intentions, motives, and what was in his heart.

I. Contentment Is Found When We Trust In The Lord's Strength (vv.1-9).
1. It Isn't Found In Our Spiritual Experiences (vv.1-6).
2. It Isn't Found In Our Own Strength Or Abilities (v.7).
3. It is found only when we learn to lean on God for our strength (vv.8-9).
II. Contentment Is Found When We Put Christ First (v.10).
1. Paul could find contentment in the midst of all kinds of trials
because what he was doing wasn't for himself, but for Christ (v.10a).
2. Paul was content because he knew in the end that it was Christ alone that shone forth in his ministry and life, and not himself (v.10b).

I. Look At The Ministry's Fruit (vv.11-12).
1. Paul displayed the "fruit" of humbleness (v.11).
A. Paul was willing to look like a fool for the Corinthians sake (v.11a).2. Paul displayed the "fruit" of an apostle (v.12).B. Paul wasn't making himself look foolish because he was less of an apostle than the other apostles or the false apostles (v.11b).
II. Look At The Ministry's Heart (vv.13-16).
1. Paul had a servant's heart that put service before financial gain
(vv.13-14, 16).
A. The only fault of Paul's ministry to the Corinthians was that he showed them preferential treatment by not letting the Corinthians provide him with financial support (v.13)2. Paul had an unquenchable love for those he served (v.15).B. Paul is anticipating a 3rd visit, and again he expects no financial support because his intentions are that of a spiritual father who does not wish to be a burden to his "children." (v.14).
C. In verse 16, Paul makes an ironic statement intended as an additional objection to what the false apostles/teachers might propose that he was somehow trying to trick the Corinthians into giving him money.
III. Look At The Ministry's Associates (vv.17-18).
1. Paul's associates served honestly also (v.17).
2. Paul's associates had the same spirit and testimony (v.18).
IV. Look At Your Own Heart (vv.19-21).
1. Be assured that God knows the truth (v.19).
2. Be assured that what's in your heart will reveal itself (vv.20-21).

Twenty-Six
I. The Notice Of The Coming Inspection (vv.1-2).
1. Paul assures the Corinthians that the inspection will be done and
will be handled properly (v.1).
2. Paul assures the Corinthians that no favoritism will be shown during the inspection (v.2).
II. The Qualifications Of The Inspector (vv.3-4).
1. The proof of Paul's qualifications was found in the fruit of his
ministry (v.3).
2. The proof of Paul's qualifications would be demonstrated upon his arrival at Corinth (v.4).
III. The Pre-Inspection Checklist (vv.5-14).
1. First, make sure that your faith is real (vv.5-6).
2. Second, base your evaluation upon the truth of God's Word (vv.7-8).
3. Third, do right in the sight of God (vv.9-10).
4. Fourth, aim for these qualities in your life (vv.11-14).
A. Be made Complete (mend your ways).B. Be encouraged (in spite of your sins and problems).
C. Have the same mind of Christ.
D. Live in peace with one another.
E. Express mutual love towards other believers.
F. Enjoy God's full provision in your daily walk (through His grace, His love and His fellowship).
