"Purposely Saved" (1:1-2)

I. Saved To Be Sown (v.1).

1. Sojourners

II. Saved According To God's Eternal Plain (vv.1b-2a).
1. By God's foreknowledge

2. Through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.

3. For obedience to Christ.

III. Saved To Live An Abundant Life (v.2b).
1. Abundant grace.

Lesson Two
"The Christian Hope" (1:3-5)

I. It Is An Unmerited Hope (v.3a).

1. God is the believer's source of hope.

2. God is the believer's source of life.


II.. It Is A Guaranteed Hope (v.3b).

1. It is our guaranteed source of life and hope.

2. It is our guarantee is based upon Christ and His resurrection.


III. It is An Imperishable Hope (v.4).

1. It is an inheritance from God.

2. It is an imperishable inheritance.

3. It is a reserved inheritance.


IV. It Is A Secure Hope (v.5).

1. It is protected hope.

2. It will be fully revealed in the end.

Lesson Three
"The Smelting Pot Of God" (1:6-9)

I. It Is A Purifying Process (vv.6-7).

1. It should be a joyful process to the believer (v.6a).

2. It is a four-fold process of refining (v.6b).

3. It is proving process (v.7).

II. It Is A Life Changing Process (vv.8-9).
1. It produces a life of love and inexpressible joy (v.8).

2. The source of joy (v.9).

Lesson Four
"The Wondrous Salvation Of God" (1:10-12)

I. It Was A Wondrous Revelation (vv.10-12a).

1. It was a divinely inspired theme of many Old Testament prophets (vv.10-11).

2. It was a divinely inspired message for a future generation (v.12a).

II. It Is A Wondrous Proclamation (v.12b).
1. It is a message for today.

2. It is a message that is illuminated by the Holy Spirit.

3. It is a message right out of heaven.

III. It is A Wondrous Contemplation (v.12c).
1. It is a wondrous thing to behold.

2. Angels have an interest in the work of God among men on earth although they have no part in the plan of salvation.

Lesson Five
"The Practical Consequences Of Christian Salvation" (1:13-17)

I. We Are To Have A Girded Mind (v.13).

1. By having a disciplined mind (v.13a).

2. By having a spiritually balanced mind (v.13b)

3. By having a forward focused mind (v.13c).

II. We Are To Have A Obedient Mind (vv.14-16).
1. By being obedient children (v.14).

2. By being like our heavenly Father (v.15).

3. By living according to God's Word (v.16).

III. We Are To Have A Reverent Mind (v.17).
1. By acknowledging our accountability to God as His children (v.17a).

2. By conducting our lives in reverential awe of God (v.17b).


Lesson Six
"There Ain't No Such Thing As Cheap Salvation" (1:18-21)

I. It Does What Man Cannot Do (v.18).

1. Man is enslaved to his sins (v.18a).

2. No earthly wealth can buy a man his freedom (v.18b).

3. No earthly traditions can lead a man to freedom (v.18c).

II. It Was Paid With A Heavenly Price (v.19).
1. It was a precious price (v.19a).

2. It was a sinless sacrifice (v.19b).

III. It Totally Restores Man's Broken Relationship With God (vv.20-21).
1. It was predestined and revealed for our sake (v.20).

2. It is a complete plan (v.21).


Lesson Seven
"The Fruit Of Salvation" (1:22-2:3)

I. It Produces A Fervent Love For Others (1:22-25).

1. The gospel enables us to love others (v.22).

2. The gospel produces eternal values (vv.23-25).

II. It Produces The Ability To Cast Aside Fleshly Attitudes (2:1).
1. Since we have become partakers of God's divine salvation we are to take off our old clothes (i.e., our fleshly behavior).

2. Peter lists the fleshly qualities that we are to remove.

III. It Produces A Hunger For God's Word (2:2-3).
1. The Christian's appetite (v.2a).

2. The Christian's desire (v.2b).

3. The Christian's growth (v.2c).

4. We should hunger for more (v.3).


Lesson Eight
"God's Building Codes" (2:4-8)

I. God's Corner Stone Of Life (vv.4-7a).

1. Christ is a living stone (v.4a)

2. Christ is God's chosen stone (v.4b).

3. Christ is the guiding stone for believers (vv.5-6a).

4. Christ is the stone of eternal life (vv.6b-7a).

II. Man's Corner Stone Of Destruction (vv.7b-8).
1. Christ is a rejected stone for those who do not believe (v.7b).

2. Christ remains a stumbling stones for those who do not believe (v.8).


Lesson Nine
"Keeping The Proper Perspective On Life " (2:9-10)

I. Remembering Who You Are (v.9a).

1. A chosen people (Ex.19:6; Deut.10:15; Isa 43:21).

2. A royal priesthood (Ex.19:6).

3. A holy people (Ex.19:6; Deut.7:6).

4. A possession of God (Ex.19:5; Deut.14:2).

II. Remember What You Are To Be Doing (v.9b).
1. We are to be proclaiming the wondrous deeds of God.

2. We are to be giving our personal testimonies of what God has done for us.

III. Remember Where You Came From (v.10).
1. We are reminded that we were once lost in our sins (v.10a).

2. We are reminded that we became God's people because of His mercy (v.10b).


Lesson Ten
"Saint Peter's Etiquette Handbook For Aliens And Strangers"
(2:11-17)

I. Our Personal Behavior (vv.11-12).

1. Continually keep yourself away from worldly desires (v.11).

2. Conduct yourself in a godly manner around unbelievers (v.12).

II. Our Behavior Towards Our Government (vv.13-16).
1. Obey the laws of the land (vv.13-15).

2. Do not use your freedom in Christ as an excuse for lawlessness (v.16).

III. The Summation Of Our Behavior (v.17).
1. Be respectful to everyone.

2. Love other Christians.

3. Live in awe of God.

4. Be respectful to our government leaders.


Lesson Eleven
"Dealing With Abuse In The Workplace" (2:18-25)

I. The Christian's Responsibility In The Workplace (vv.18-20).

1. Be submissive to those you work for (v.18).

2. Be sure you are not the reason for the abuse (vv.19-20).

II. Following Christ's Example (vv.21-25).
1. Christ's example of unjustified suffering (vv.21-23).

"God's Guidelines For A Happy Marriage" (3:1-7)

"Walking The Talk" (3:8-12)

1. Refrain from speaking evil (v.10).

4. The Lord blesses those who obey Him (v.12).


Lesson Fourteen
"Living A Godly Life In A Hostile Culture" (3:13-17)

I. Live A Righteous Life (vv.13-14).

1. Live your life so that you will be a benefit to others (v.13).

2. Live your life without fear or intimidation of others (v.14).

II. Make Christ The Center Of Your Heart And Life (vv.15-17).
1. A Christ-centered life places Christ on the throne of your heart (v.15a).

2. A Christ-centered life is able to give an account of one's faith (v.15b).

3. A Christ-centered life brings shame upon those who falsely accuse you (v.16).

4. A Christ-centered life finds no disgrace in suffering for what's right (v.17).

Lesson Fifteen
"Christ Our Example; From Suffering To Glory" (3:18-22)

I. What His Suffering Accomplished (vv.18-20).

1. The accomplishment of the cross (v.18).

2. The victory of the cross proclaimed (vv.19-20).

II. What His Resurrection Accomplished (vv.21-22).
1. It guarantees our redemption so that we can have a good conscience when facing persecution (v.21).

2. The exaltation of Christ guarantees our ultimate victory over persecution (v.22).

Lesson Sixteen
"Christ Our Example; Keeping A Christlike Attitude
During Times Of Suffering" (4:1-6)

I. By Arming Yourself With The Mind Of Christ (v.1).

1. A Christlike attitude equips the believer for suffering (v.1a).

2. A Christlike attitude breaks the dominion of sin over a believer's life (v.1b).

II. By Living According To God's Will And Not The Flesh (vv.2-4).
1. A Christlike attitude no longer lives for the flesh, but for the will of God (vv.2-3).

2. A Christlike attitude is incomprehensible to the world (v.4).

III. By Realizing That Everyone Will Give An Account To God Some Day (vv.5-6).
1. A worldly attitude leads only to God's judgment (v.5).

2. A Christlike attitude may be judged by the world, but it will be honored by God (v.6).

Lesson Seventeen
"End-Time Attitudes For Christians " (4:7-11)

I. We Are To Have An Expectant Attitude (v.7a).

1. By understanding the certainty of the nearness of the end of the age.

2. By being stirred into action by nearness of the end of the age.

II. We Are To Have A Prayerful Attitude (v.7b).
1. In maintaining a steady and clear mind.

2. In maintaining a active prayer life.

III. We Are To Have A Ministering Attitude (vv.8-11).
1. In our love for other believers (v.8).

2. In our hospitality towards other believers (v.9).

3. In our service to other believers (vv.10-11).


Lesson Eighteen
"Be Prepared For Suffering" (4:12-19)

I. Be Mentally Prepared For It (v.12).

1. Christians are not exempt from suffering (v.12a, c).

2. Trials are God's refineries for Christians (v.12b).

II. Rejoice And Be Blessed In It (vv.13-14).
1. Rejoice in the privilege of suffering for the Lord (v.13).

2. Those who are reviled for the Lord's sake are blessed (v.14).

III. Suffer For The Right Reasons (vv.15-16).
1. There is no virtue in suffering for the wrong reasons (v.15).

2. There is no shame in suffering for being identified with Christ (v.16).

IV. Remember That God's Judgment Begins At Home (vv.17-18).
1. God allows persecution as a disciplinary judgment to purify the lives of Christians (v.17a).

2. A greater judgment awaits unbelievers (vv.17b-18).

V. How To React When Faced With It (v.19).
1. Entrust your soul to our faithful Creator (v.19a).

2. Continue to do what is right (v.19b).

Lesson Nineteen
"Principles In Biblical Leadership" (5:1-4)

I. Its Role Model (v.1).

1. The equality of Eldership (v.1).

2. The background of Eldership (various passages).

A. Qualifications (all are given in the present tense and masculine gender:1 Tim.3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).

B. Descriptive titles: Overseer/Bishop (1 Tim.3:1-2; 5:17; Titus 1:7), Elder (1 Tim.5:17; Titus 1:5; Heb. 11:2; James 5:14; 1 Pe. 5:1), and Pastor (shepherd: Eph.4:11; 1 Pe.5:2).

C. Eldership is always used in the plural, except once when the term pastor is used as a noun (Eph 4:11-12).

D. Elders can receive compensation for teaching and preaching (1 Tim.5:17-18; Gal. 6:6; 1 Thess.5:12-13; 1 Cor.9:14).

E. Sinful Elders are to be disciplined publicly by their church (1 Tim.5:19-20).

F. Elders are to visit the sick when called (James 5:13-15).

G. Elders are to be obeyed (Heb.13:17).

H. Elder's first line of responsibility is to teach and protect doctrinal truth (1 & 2 Timothy).

II. Its Responsibilities (vv.2-3).
1. Shepherd by your own accord and not because of pressure by others (v.2a).

2. Shepherd out of love and not for money alone (v.2b).

3. Shepherd by example and not by an wrong attitude (v.3).

III. Its Reward (v.4).
1. Faithful leaders will be rewarded when Christ returns (v.4a).

2. Faithful leaders will receive a crown of glory (v.4b).

Lesson Twenty
"Be Humble, But Watchful!" (5:5-14)

I. A Call For Humility (vv.5-7).

1. The call to follow our Elders/Pastors (v.5a).

2. The call to be humble towards one another (v.5b).

3. The call to be humble before God (vv.6-7).

II. The Warning And Promise (vv.8-11).
1. The warning to be on alert for our adversary (v.8).

2. The call to resist the adversary (v.9).

3. The promise in the midst of suffering (vv.10-11).

A. To perfect.
