WHO IS JESUS

INTRODUCTION:

WHO IS JESUS?   JESUS IS GOD.

The first eighteen verses of the book of John are called the prologue, which is the introduction. In these verses John introduces us to Jesus Christ, the God Man.

In the passage we are looking at in this message, we will see Him as the ETERNAL ONE AND THE CREATOR..

Let’s read John 1:1-18 then for this message we will consider verses 1-5.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was With God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. 16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Matthew, Mark and Luke, known as the SYNOPTIC GOSPELS {synoptic means "to see together"} cover pretty much the same material. ….

For example…Matthew , Mark and Luke  present the humanity of Jesus.

John’s gospel is different. He emphasizes the DEITY of Christ.

Matthew and Mark present a genealogy.

John does not have a genealogy; because God does not have a genealogy.

John stated a specific reason for writing.

John 20:30 (KJV)

And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

John 20:31 (KJV)

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

The book of John talks a great deal about regeneration and eternal life.

John also backs up to eternity past; where we want to start this message.

John 1:1 (KJV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:2 (KJV)

The same was in the beginning with God.

John 1:3 (KJV)

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:4 (KJV)

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 1:5 (KJV)

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

OUTLINE

The pre-incarnate Christ 1-5

His relationship to the Father 1-2

His eternality stated 1a-2

          His deity stated 2

Christ’s relationship to the world 3-5

          He is the creator 3

          He is the life 4

          He is the light 5

First let's look at Jesus’ relationship with His father

The ETERNALITY of Jesus is brought forth in verses 1-2

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God.

Jesus is God therefore He has always existed.

In John 8:58 Jesus said,’’ before Abraham was I am’’

John 17:5 (KJV)

And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

The terms INCARNATE and INCARNATION refer to Jesus being human and staying GOD at the same time.[Hypostatic union]

The term WORD is a title used to describe Jesus as God.

The phrase THE WORD OF GOD is used over 1200 times in O/T.

It is used to refer to God’s message to man.

Jesus is certainly God’s message to man for today.

To learn about Jesus as the Word…study the written word.

With God  indicates perfect fellowship between Father and Son

The DEITY of our savor is declared in verse 2

2 The same was in the beginning With God.

Jesus is eternal…He has always coexisted With The Father.

Jesus did not have a beginning as a creature.

He did not at some point begin a relationship With the Father.

Only God is eternal.. Jesus is God..always been will always be.

Both Father and Son are God…yet there is only one God.

Jesus did not become God..>>> He was always God.

APPLICATION since Jesus is God we can trust Him for our salvation

Next let’s look at Christ’s relationship to the world

Jesus is the CREATOR verse 3

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

This is one of the many things Christ was doing before His birth.

He created everything from angels to zebras.

This tells us He existed before creation.

This also speaks to His DEITY because of the necessary power.

Jesus is the revealer of God..The revelation started With creation.

Then Jesus came to the earth that he created and said,’’

IF YOU HAVE SEEN ME YOU HAVE SEEN THE FATHER’’

He continued His revelation in person.

Col. 1:16 (KJV)

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Col. 1:17 (KJV)

And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Jesus put it together and He holds it together.

Jesus knows all the problems.

If the problems of the world were presented to Him He could solve them.

APPLICATION..If you have a problem With a new product, you take it back to the mfg. or his agent.. They know how it is built.

Jesus knows how we are built and He can solve all our problems.

Jesus is the LIFE verse 4

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

The most significant thing in creation is life.

The book of John uses the word LIFE over 40 times {kjv-strongs}

Jesus is the source of all life.

He could give life to the things He created..some He did.

John 5:26 (KJV)

For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

Today a body can have a heart beat, blood circulating and be breathing and yet not be alive.

God gives life and God takes life.

Spiritually speaking, where there is life there is light.

Those who are saved are no longer dead in sins.

We have life and can walk in the light.

AND

Jesus is the LIGHT SEE verse 5

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

As light shines in darkness, Jesus brought life and light to mankind.

Darkness stands for sin and Satan.

Light stands for Christ and salvation.

Though darkness is all around..THE LIGHT can overcome it.

Jesus Christ is the answer for darkness.

Jesus is the light that shows us the path out of the darkness of sin.

We either love light or we love darkness.

The one we love determines our actions.

Why do unsaved people not welcome the light?

BECAUSE the powers of darkness oppose it.

Satan. does not like to lose his friends.

Satan. works hard to keep people in darkness.

Darkness means death..destruction..Lake Of Fire With Satan.

He wants YOU as company With him ETERNALLY IN THE LAKE.

Will you come to Jesus  who is the light?

Jesus wants your company in HEAVEN for eternity.

SO MUCH SO THAT HE DIED TO SO YOU CAN WALK IN THE LIGHT and get out of the darkness of Satan.

SUMMARY
