Doctrine Of Imputation

Romans 5:1-5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: (2) By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (3) And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; (4) And patience, experience; and experience, hope: (5) And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

The Doctrine Of Imputation

I want to talk to you today about The Doctrine of Imputation. Unless you understand this Biblical truth, you will NEVER understand your salvation. We are able to “STAND in GRACE” (verse 2) before God because of imputation. The pattern for our salvation is Abraham, as we saw in the previous chapter. We are told in:

James 2:23 (KJV) … the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was IMPUTED {Greek logizomai} unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Word Study: Because Abraham believed God – following God where He led – God IMPUTED righteousness to him. The word translated “IMPUTED” is the Greek logizomai, which means “to reckon, to compute, to calculate, to make an account of, to number among”. The Bible tells us that God is … Continue reading →

At Peace Or In Crisis?

Our text begins with “THEREFORE”. When you read your Bible and encounter the word “THEREFORE”, you should ask yourself,
“What is it THERE FOR?”

This “THEREFORE” is pointing backwards to what we learned about Abraham last week. Abraham is called “our father”, because his life is the pattern of saving faith. The Bible says,

Romans 4:3 (AP) … Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and HIS BELIEF was counted or IMPUTED unto him for righteousness …

God came to a broken man, and called him to follow Him, to be a follower of Christ. Abraham followed. He believed in Jesus, and followed Jesus – even when he did not understand where he was going or what he was going through. Abraham was saved by believing in Jesus (John 8:58). Abraham was saved apart from ritual, apart from Church, apart from Law, apart from good works, apart from any human agency whatsoever. Living By The Flesh Or The Spirit?

As God talks to us about genuine salvation, we have learned in Romans so far that:

Chapter 1: God is LOVE, but God is also WRATH. God offers us His love through the “Gospel of Jesus Christ”. But if we reject His love, and instead focus on satisfying ourselves through the flesh or “vile passions”, God will let us burn ourselves out. If God calls us, but we reject His Gospel, He will leave us to our own destructive ways.

Chapter 2: We are all sinners. God gave us an external diagnostic tool called “The Law” to show us how broken we are. The Mosaic Law declares that we need to repent, and come surrendered to God in faith. We need God to write HIS LAW in our hearts so that we might want to serve Him and not our flesh. In the end, God will judge the fruit of our lives. If that fruit was God honoring, we will be rewarded. If that fruit is flesh honoring, we will be damned (Revelation 20:11-14).

Return To His Family

Romans 3:24-28 (KJV) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: (25) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; (26) To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. (27) Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. (28) Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

What was God’s purpose when He created Adam and Eve, and placed them in a Garden East of Eden (Genesis 2:8)? The Bible says that God made man – male and female – in His image and in His likeness (Genesis 1:27). The Bible tells us that God is One (Galatians 3:20). Jesus said: Continue reading →

Bad News And Good News

People do not understand the GOOD NEWS until they first hear the BAD NEWS. I used to see bumper stickers that said “Jesus Saves”, to which I’d reply sarcastically, “From What?” Jesus saves from what? What do we need to be saved from? What do I need to be saved from?

In our opening text God tells us that “Jesus saves”, and shares the wonderful Gospel of Christ. But we skipped the introduction. Before the Apostle shares the Gospel or the Good News, God through him gives us the Bad News.

The “Good News” is not good until you hear the bad news.

The Most Deadly Thing

In 2019 we were told that the greatest threat to humanity was attacking the world. Called the “Coronavirus Disease” or “Covid-19”, nearly every nation in the world ground to a halt. Governments shut down businesses, gymnasiums, beaches, restaurants, and Churches. From its initial outbreak in late 2019 to April 13, 2024 there were 7,010,681 deaths worldwide from Covid. So is Covid the most dangerous thing in the world? It is dangerous, but the U.S. Centers for Disease Control tells us that mosquitoes are the world’s deadliest creature. It causes 700,000 deaths worldwide each year. Which is more deadly – Covid, or mosquitoes?

There’s something more deadly than Covid-19, mosquitoes, rattlesnakes, or spiders. The most deadly thing in the world is what God calls “Sin”.

Sin is more deadly than cancer. If you go to your doctor and he diagnoses you with cancer, there are options that you will be given to combat that cancer. Very few people tell their doctor to “go fly a kite” when he gives them the diagnosis. The cancer patient takes the doctor seriously, and heeds the doctor. But when God tells us that sin is deadly, we ignore both the Word of God and the Pastor who tells us about it. Continue reading →

The Fruit Matters

God has no favorites, but will judge each person on the fruit of your life. The fruit of your life matters both now and into eternity. The fruit of your present life shows whether you are born of sin, or born again of the Son.

In 2017, Pope Francis said “Is it possible God has some children He does not love? No! We are all God’s beloved children.”

That’s not what God tells us. We have seen that there are two categories of people according to God. There are those who are “Beloved” (Agapetos) and those who are “Of Humanity” (Anthropos). The “Beloved” are beloved children of God because they have believed on God’s Beloved Son (Matthew 3:17; 17:5; 2 Peter 1:17). Receiving Christ as Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit causes the heart of the recipient to be “born again”. Those who reject Christ are “condemned already, because they have not believed in the Name of the Only Begotten Son of God” (John 3:18). These people are “in the flesh” (Romans 7:5), they are “of humanity” (Anthropos). They are a creation of God, but are not children of God. Continue reading →

Judgment Day Is Coming

The Apostle addresses the “beloved of God”. The word “BELOVED” is the Greek agapētos, which certainly means “BELOVED”, but it means also “those well favored, those worthy of love”. The believer in Christ is worthy of love because he is a believer in Christ. Jesus Christ is God’s “BELOVED Son” (Matthew 3:17). God told the Prophet Isaiah of the Lord Jesus, saying:

Matthew 12:18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

When you receive Jesus as Lord and Savior you are “BELOVED” for His sake. You are “called to be SAINTS” because Christ’s sacrifice is reckoned to your life. As father Abraham believed on and received Christ, we do as well. Christ’s righteousness is “imputed to us, if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offenses, and raised for our justification”.

But as we come to Romans chapter two, the Word of God does not address the Church, but the lost world. We read:

Romans 2:1 … Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man …

Romans 2:3 … And thinkest thou this, O man …

Word Study: It is not the “BELOVED” that is addressed, but “MAN”, the Greek anthrōpos which means “human being, whether male or female”. The Beloved of God, the Christian is to “let your light so shine before MEN (anthrōpos), that they (the lost) may see our good works, and glorify our Father Who is in Heaven” (Matthew 5:16). The Dangerous Confusion Of Idolatry

Romans 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Opening: What is the most deadly poison in the world? If you ask scientists, they will tell you that it is not snake venom, nor black mold, nor even radiation poisoning. The most deadly poison they say is not cyanide, arsenic, or strychnine. It is Botulinum toxin. A tiny particle – 1 nanogram, a billionth of a gram … and a gram is 1/30 of an ounce – will kill you.

There is something even more deadly than Botulinum toxin, and what makes it so deadly is that it can creep up on you. No, I’m not talking about Covid or the Flu.

The deadliest thing ever was introduced to our species not by a monkey or a sheep, but by a snake in a garden. This deadly thing is idolatry. Continue reading →

Man Not Naturally Good – But God Is

Romans 1:17-20 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. [18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; [19] Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them. [20] For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse…

The “JUST” or “RIGHTEOUS” Shall
Live By Faith In God

Word Study: The Bible says “The JUST shall live by faith”. The word translated “JUST” is the Greek dikaios (pro. dik’-ah-yos) which means “those who are RIGHTEOUS, JUSTIFIED or in a RIGHT STATE WITH GOD, the HOLY or BLAMELESS”. This statement is used frequently in the Bible – and NOT just in the New Testament. In the Book of Habakkuk God told the Prophet:

Habakkuk 1:6-7 (ESV) … I am raising up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, who march through the breadth of the earth, to seize dwellings not their own. 7 They are dreaded and fearsome; their justice and dignity go forth from themselves.

Why? Because Israel had departed from following God. Habakkuk wrote:

Habakkuk 1:12 (ESV) … We shall not die. O Lord, you have ordained them as a judgment, and you, O Rock, have established them for reproof. … Continue reading →
