Jesus Commanded That We Love As He Loves

When I was in the Air Force we often had to go out to the gun range to “qualify”. Qualification consisted of 8 hours of instruction on handling a firearm. The first thing you always did was sight in your weapon. You’d aim at the target, fire a test round, then adjust your sights to correct for the drift of the bullet. You learned to breath, how to control yourself so that you could hit the target. If you were off target, you could die in a fight. If you’re off target you can’t win a battle. You’re a casualty!

We live in an off target world!

People stare at their phones rather than talking to one another. I’ve seen a family of five sitting in a restaurant, all ignoring one another while locked onto their phones. Technology is destroying the family, the place where children used to be taught how to live in civilized society.

Medicine – which should be helping and healing people – several years ago started “surgically correcting” children who felt they were born the wrong gender. Children need to be taught and loved, not scarred and mutilated in the name of progress. Several years ago I heard of a man named Thomas Beatie who became pregnant in 2007. Beatie has had THREE children since then. The Guinness Book of world records notes that Thomas Beatie is the first man to give birth in Bend, Oregon (USA) on June 29, 2008. Isn’t that amazing. But as Paul Harvey would say …. “Here’s the rest of the story”. When this individual was born, SHE was born Tracy Lagondino. Tracy underwent chest reconstruction surgery, and was legally recognized by the State of Hawaii as a man, allowing HER birth certificate to be amended. Because “Thomas” wanted to have children, SHE never had her female reproductive system removed. Even with surgery, a female has two X chromosomes, and is scientifically still a female – though the law allowed recognition of this person as a male…. Continue reading

Faithful Is The Word (Part 2): Gospel Truths

Please turn with me in your Bibles to 2 Timothy. This morning we began to look at the “faithful sayings” the Apostle Paul shared with two young men, Timothy (a Jewish Greek) and Titus (a Gentile). Paul left these men in Ephesus and Crete to establish local Churches in those areas. We see Paul repeating a phrase:
“This is a faithful saying”
the Greek pistos logos, or literally
“Faithful is the Word”

In these phrases the Apostle is emphasizing the faithfulness of God in saving souls. This morning we saw that (1) God came to this earth the save sinners, and (2) God has given us a Faithful Word, the Holy Scripture, to grow us in our salvation.

The Lord Who Saved Us, Owns Us, And Will Keep Us

2 Timothy 2:11-13 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 if we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

This “faithful is the Word” is tied together with FOUR Ifs. We’ll look at these in order…. Continue reading

Speaking The Truth In Love

Beloved, God’s people are to “speak the truth IN LOVE”. There is a truth, a truth that transcends all others, a truth taught in this glorious old Book we call the Bible. We are to – like Opie – speak the truth in love, even if it means getting a whipping from others who – like Andy – misunderstand us. It is only by speaking God’s truth – His Bible – that others are led to Christ. It is only by speaking the truth that other believers in Jesus near us “may grow up into {Christ} in all things, which is the head, even Christ”. God saved us, and wants us to be like Jesus. God wants others to come to know Jesus. We MUST speak the truth IN LOVE.

We Are To Be Like Jesus, Not The Devil
Speak THE TRUTH in LOVE

God despises lies. It was a lie spoken by the serpent Satan that led Adam to eat that which was forbidden. … Continue reading

The Most Important Connection You’ll Ever Make

I recently read of a man in Los Angeles who nearly got in bad trouble texting. He heard a commotion outside, and walked outside his apartment to see what was happening as he was texting. He nearly ran into a 400 pound black bear. Though he escaped others were not so lucky. People have walked into swimming pools, walked into rivers, and been hit by cars while texting. More than 10,000… Continue reading

Where Do You Build Your Altar?

Israel took the much larger and much more fortified Jericho without the loss of even one life. If WE can storm Jericho and take it with no loss IMAGINE what we can do at Ai. Beloved, when it becomes more about US than it is about the LORD then it is not long before we are chased about by the lost. Continue reading

Wilt Thou Be?

I was thinking about Heaven last Friday as I sought the Lord in prayer. I began to think about how people view Heaven. Several many years ago I watched Billy Graham appear on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Johnny loved to ask Billy teasing questions – and Billy was always quick to respond with good-natured love. Continue reading
