The Lamb Has Come
Jesus was going to Jerusalem one last time. This was the week when all Israel was supposed to celebrate the Passover. The Passover commemorated the Grace of God, when He freed Israel from slavery to Egypt, and established the nation as His chosen people. The Passover reminded Israel that God keeps His promises, that God is faithful. God promised Abraham that a nation would come from his loins, and that nation was Israel. God also promised Abraham that from that nation Israel a Redeemer would come, the Messiah Who would offer salvation to the whole world (Genesis 12:1-3; 15:5-6; 17:4-8; 17:19). God promised:
Genesis 22:17-18 In Your Seed, Abraham, shall ALL THE NATIONS of the earth be blessed.
When God made this promise, as Paul tells us, the “SEED” of Abraham that would bless the whole world is Jesus Christ. The Apostle writes:
Galatians 3:16 (LSB) Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as [referring] to many, but [rather] to one, “And TO YOUR SEED,” that is, CHRIST.
The Passover was a time when lambs without spot or blemish were sacrificed at the Temple to commemorate the night that God saved Israel from Egypt. The lamb was to be slain, and its blood placed on the doorposts of the home. God said “When I see the BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU, and the plague will not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt” (Exodus 12:13). The Judgment of God is Continue reading

When Jesus Was Angry
John 2:12-16 After this {Jesus} went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days. 13 And the Jews’ Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: 15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; 16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
The first two words we see in our text today is “After this”. Last week we saw Jesus turn dirty wash water into wine. The wine He made was the very best wine anyone had ever tasted. Just as Jesus can take a dirty water and make it clean wine, He can take a broken life and make it complete. Jesus loves to fix the broken. If you’re broken, you need Jesus!
The Jewish Passover Shows The Love Of God
Tonight we’re going to see one of the times in Scripture “when Jesus gets angry”. Jesus has just done His first miracle, and now He goes to Jerusalem for “the Jews’ Passover”. The “Passover” is a fantastic time in the life of the nation of Israel. Continue reading
Jesus Will Whip You
John 2:13 And the Jews’ Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem …
Pastor Tony Evans told this story:
“A man once robbed a bank in Ottawa, Canada, stealing $6,000. But the interesting part of the story is this: When they arrested him and took him to jail, they discovered he’d used a 1918 Colt revolver to commit that crime. Now, anyone who knows anything about guns already understands the point of this story. This gun was valued at more than $100,000, yet this man robbed a bank for only $6,000. He could have simply sold the gun and walked away with more than ten times what he got in the robbery. But he didn’t sell the gun because he didn’t know the worth of what he held in his hand.”
When Jesus came to this earth on Our Father’s mission, He came to open our eyes to what is most important.
We are to love God our Savior, and love one another.
We often forget this great truth and, when we do …. Jesus will get your attention. In fact, if you are his, Jesus will whip you!… Continue reading
