Why Can’t Hollywood Make A Good Movie?

loganThis may seem a little different than my other posts. I usually focus on sermons I’ve preached, or heard preached. But frankly, I’m very disappointed. I could hardly wait until the newest Marvel Movie on Wolverine came out, a movie called “Logan”.

Don’t waste your money.

The previous X-Men/ Wolverine movies were great fun with little cursing, nudity, or even bloodiness. Not so this movie.  “Logan” portrays Wolverine as an older, drunken, washed up old man who drives a limo for a living. Though Professor X (Dr Xavier) died in an earlier movie we are introduced to a resurrected character going through some type of dementia, a pitiful relic of a deluded director.

And cursing. I lost count of the number of “F Bombs” dropped in the movie, starting within minutes from the opening credits and to the very end. I have come to one conclusion.

Hollywood just can’t make a good movie anymore. And that’s sad.

loganJust the other day I watched a few of the old Hollywood Classics. El Dorado with a young James Caan, John Wayne, and Robert Mitchum. Clean, no cursing, wonderful plot, great acting. Or what about Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman  in Casablanca. Oh, but David, these are old movies. Hollywood could do good movies if they would. Consider The Hunger Games (2012) or Safe House (2012), the latter only having one curse word in it. The Avengers (2012) was a fun movie, worth watching, clean, and with great actors and acting. We Bought A Zoo (2011) was clean, with great acting from Mat Damon. Battleship (2012) was a great action movie devoid of filth.

Hollywood has gone to the dogs in morality. From a washed up comedian holding a gory Presidential head for laughs, to groups gathered together to support the murder of innocent children, Tinseltown has not only lost its moral compass, it has lost its mind. And it’s lost my business. To sit nearly three hours watching garbage is ridiculous.

I’m done being part of the ridiculous. We are told in …

Proverbs 14:34 (NLT) Godliness makes a nation great,
but sin is a disgrace to any people.

Hollywood is a disgrace. On television and in the theater it glorifies rudeness, cursing, tobacco, and drugs. Children are taught to smoke and drink and sleep around by Hollywood. It’s time to just say NO.

In the last scene of Logan a little girl stands over the dead “hero’s” grave. At the head of the grave is a crudely formed Christian Cross. The little girl pulls the Cross up, turns it sideways like an “X” and puts it back over the grave. This is symbolic of modern Hollywood. Anything decent is “X’d” out. Lines between the sexes are blurred. That which is abnormal is triumphed as normal and absolutely acceptable. Why? Because sin sells in the movies and on television. Sex sells. Blood sells. Drugs sell. But the consequences of these bad sells are destroying our families and our nation.

It’s time to just say NO!

About bibleteacherorg

A searching pastor, I am looking for a people who love the Lord and love one another. I am looking for the Church. Most of what I see today is not the Church, but clubs, where members sit in padded pews and drink deeply of self. I am looking for a people willing to be righteous not self righteous, serving not served, In short, I am looking and praying for a people who want to change the world by willingly and willfully following Jesus Christ. I hope I find this people before it's too late.
