The 9-1-1 Psalm (Psalm 91)

As Sherry and I were coming home today from the Church house we saw an ambulance and two police cruisers at a neighbor’s home. Though I don’t know the details I know that someone was hurt, and someone dialed 9-1-1. When we dial 9-1-1 those who we call “First Responders” come to us to help us. Sometimes we need the Police, and other times the Fire Department or an ambulance. Thank God for our 9-1-1 operators and those responders who come to help us in need. Continue reading

Social Distancing (Red Letters #17)

In the midst of this Covid-19 pandemic we are being encouraged to “practice social distancing”. Humans are social creatures, and Christians are even more so. I know few Christians who do not appreciate a warm handshake, a pat on the back, or a hug with “I love you” attached. The Christian faith is all about love, not distance. … Continue reading

Narrow Gate Of Salvation (Red Letters Series #16)

Some have said that God Himself is the obstacle to the narrow way. Some believers (and they are believers in Christ) feel that Christ only came for a select group called “The Elect”. Those who feel this reach that conclusion, I believe, honestly, though I cannot agree with them. I believe that Jesus Christ came and gave His life for ALL, not just a select group…. Faith Is (Names of God Series)

What is that which we call “Faith”? A lot of people define “faith” a lot of different ways. But how does GOD define “faith”? After all, this is what matters most. Let’s break down our focal text:

The word translated “substance” is the Greek ὑπόστασις hypóstasis, (pronounced hoop-os’-tas-is) which means “the firm foundation, the confidence, a substantial quality of a thing”. I hear people speak of “blind faith”, but “blind faith” is not the faith of the Christian. Our faith has substance. … Continue reading

Against Human Judgments

Jesus did not come to erase or redefine that which God called sinful. Jesus came to be the Perfect High Priest to His people. Jesus came to be the “Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29, 36). Jesus did not come to stand against God and His Law, but to show us how to practically live for righteousness sake, as lights in the midst of this current darkness…. Continue reading

The Priority Of Prayer

Matthew 6:31-33 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek (zētéō) ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Our “seeking” should be driven toward the Kingdom of God. If you “seek {zētéō} first the Kingdom of God AND His righteousness THEN all these other things (what you need to eat, drink, and wear) will be added to you. Continue reading

Names Of God: Yahweh Nissi

Everyone has a duty to do. Moses was to hold up the “rod of God”. This was the same “rod” that Moses held over the Red Sea when it parted. This was the same “rod” that Moses struck the rock with a Rephidim. God has had Moses use this same “rod” over and over again. But now God is going to show Israel something very different. Continue reading

Red Letters #13: Against Anxiety

What comes into your mind through the eyes and the ears influences your thought processes. If the devil cannot keep you from Christ and keep you in a lost state, then the devil will do his best to make you act like the lost. He wants you wandering and confused, worried and anxious, chasing every dandelion seed and useless thought. Peter told us that:… Continue reading

Red Letters Series #12: Where Is Your Heart?

Salvation is by faith in Christ. Once we come to Christ we are commanded to do good works – works like fasting and giving – to be more like Christ our Savior. We are justified by faith apart from the works of the Law (Romans 3:28) but once saved, we do the things that are pleasing to our Lord. We are saved not because of our works, but because of God’s purpose and grace (2 Timothy 1:8-10). Listen to me, Beloved…. Continue reading

The Names of God: Yahweh Elohiym and Yahweh Rapha

The Book of Exodus shows us the beginning of God’s fulfillment of His Promise to Abraham. In it we see the beginning of Israel as a nation, a people saved by God. In Israel we also see how God reveals Himself to his people. God reveals Himself through the use of different names, names that characterize Who our God is…. Continue reading
