Fulfilling The Great Commission
As Christians, we should love the lost. We should seek opportunities to tell others of Christ, of the glorious Gospel that saved us. Jesus commanded us:
Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV) GO YE therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
Word Study: The first two words translated “GO YE” is a Greek verb poreuō. The way we generally see it rendered is “GO, and teach”. That is, you should GO into the world with the intent of teaching. Technically the verb is an Aorist Passive Deponent Participle, to which you go “HUH”? But this is important. As a PASSIVE DEPONENT this should be rendered “HAVING GONE {into the world}”. What is Jesus saying? He is saying that where ever we are, where ever we find ourselves as Christ followers, we SHOULD BE LIGHT BEARING.
Matthew 28:19 (Young’s Literal Translation) HAVING GONE, then, disciple all the nations, baptizing them — to the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit …
People ask me, “Pastor, how can I witness of Jesus in this dark world?”. The answer is very simple. Where ever you go, what ever you do, do not focus on how dark the world is. Focus on BEING LIGHT. You are the… Continue reading

Put Them In Mind
Titus 3:1-7 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. 3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Not Everyone Will Live
I heard a great statement the other day – it was in a Christian song by a man called Dax. He said:
“All people will die – but not everyone will live”
That is so very true. In the first two chapters the Lord tells His Church how the leaders should be – if they are indeed of Christ. Now in this chapter the Apostle focuses on how the the Church itself – each and every believer – should be. Now let me be very quick to point out that salvation is not something that is earned. A broken creature cannot work harder at self improvement in order to be saved. This isn’t a bootstrap program. Salvation is entirely of grace. The Apostle makes this clear in our text:
Titus 3:4-5 after that the KINDNESS and LOVE of GOD OUR SAVIOR toward man appeared, 5 NOT BY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH WE HAVE DONE, but according to his mercy he saved us… Continue reading

The Great Supper
Tonight we’re going to start to study the Parables of Jesus. Turn with me in your Bibles to Luke 14:15-24. While you’re turning there, I want to explain parables. A “parable” (Greek parabolē) is a teaching tool that Jesus often used. A parable will compare a spiritual truth by aligning it with a familiar physical event. The Bible says “Jesus spoke MANY THINGS to them in parables” (Matthew 13:3). Jesus’ disciples asked Him:
“Why do You speak to the crowd with parables?”
Matthew 13:10
Jesus told them:
Matthew 13:11-14 (LSB) {Jesus} said to them, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 “For whoever has, to him [more] shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 “Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 “And in them the prophecy of Isaiah (Isaiah 6:9-10) is being fulfilled, which says, ‘YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE;
Jesus spoke in parables for two reasons:
1 To teach Kingdom principles to those who were His followers, and
2 To hide Kingdom principles from those who lost, who were against the Kingdom
A parable was never given to help a lost person become saved. It was given to teach a saved person the things of God. It was given to perhaps chastise those who rejected what Jesus said. One pastor I heard explained it this way:… Continue reading
