Straight Talk About The Devil, The Bible, And The Church
Matthew 16:13-18 KJV When Jesus came into the coasts of CAESAREA PHILIPPI, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Location Is Important: When Jesus asked His question, He and the Apostles were at “CAESAREA PHILIPPI”. Location is important when you’re studying the Bible. In Caesarea Philippi – a Roman stronghold – the people worshiped many gods and goddesses. There was Pan, Zeus, Hermes, Nemesis, Tyche … lots of false gods and goddesses. As our Lord traveled the length of the Holy Land, He had healed many, and reached out to both Jews and Gentiles. So Jesus asks:
Whom do MEN say that I the Son of man am?
What does the general public consider Jesus to be? Here Jesus refers to Himself as “The Son of Man”. So what is Jesus asking?
In the Old Testament, the phrase “son of man” first referred to a descendant of Adam, a human. Humans are fallen creatures. The Scripture says:
Numbers 23:19 NKJV – GOD IS NOT A MAN, that He should lie, NOR A SON OF MAN, that He should repent. …… Continue reading
Where Are The Nine?
Luke 17:11-19 KJV – And it came to pass, as {Jesus} went to Jerusalem, that HE PASSED THROUGH THE MIDST OF SAMARIA AND GALILEE. 12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: 13 And they lifted up [their] voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. 14 And when he saw [them], he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on [his] face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where [are] the nine? 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. 19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. The Hope Of The Nation
Our nation is in a famine. Not a famine of food and water, but a terrible famine nonetheless. God tells the nations through the Prophets:
Ezekiel 14:12-14 NKJV The word of the LORD came again to me, saying: 13 “Son of man, when A LAND SINS AGAINST ME BY PERSISTENT UNFAITHFULNESS, I will stretch out My hand against it; I WILL CUT OFF ITS SUPPLY OF BREAD, SEND FAMINE ON IT, and CUT OFF MAN AND BEAST FROM IT. 14 “Even [if] these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would DELIVER ONLY THEMSELVES BY THEIR RIGHTEOUSNESS,” says the Lord GOD.
God sends famine on a land that rejects Him. Beloved, there is famine in the land. There is famine in America.
Illustrate: I recently read a news article from financial expert Ted Jenkin entitled “Americans say they’re broke. So why can’t they stop spending so much?”. The first paragraph of the article said:
“Some Americans are crying poverty with a $1,500 iPhone in one hand and an $8 Starbucks latte in the other. They say groceries are unaffordable, but somehow the restaurants are packed, airports are crowded, and the neighbor just pulled into his driveway with a brand-new $90,000 SUV. Apparently, we’re one bad economic report away from bankruptcy and one Instagram post away from booking another trip to Cabo. Consumer confidence is in the basement. Consumer spending apparently didn’t get the memo.”
I’ve asked the same question myself. Americans are crying that they’re impoverished, but they have a cable television subscription that costs hundreds a year. They have “smart phones” and data plans that costs hundreds a month. Restaurants and stores are packed with people spending money – and yet we want more. Why? Because America is in the midst of a famine.
There is a famine of justice. Millions of American taxpayer dollars were embezzled by fraudulent child care centers in Minnesota, and it was uncovered and exposed by journalist Nick Shirley. Rather than fix the problem, nothing has happened to fix the problem other than government… Continue reading

Sun And Moon Stand Still
I want to read you a story today, a story in the life of Israel and Joshua, their leader. We will be in Joshua 10:1-14. But before we go there, I want us to read a couple of texts that are important to this story. Please stand in honor of this reading:
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Some people think that the Old Testament was written about a different God than the New Testament. Some Christians think that the Old Testament has no purpose now that we have the New Testament. They couldn’t be further wrong. Our Lord Jesus said:
John 5:39 (KJV) SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and THEY ARE THEY WHICH TESTIFY OF ME.
What was “THE SCRIPTURES” when Jesus said this? There was no New Testament, and no established Church until after the Day of Pentecost. When Jesus said “SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES”, He was talking about the Old Testament. Moses wrote about Jesus. Our Lord said:
John 5:46 (KJV) had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me.
Moses wrote of Jesus. Jesus foreshadowed in every animal sacrifice, every feast, every thing that God did through Israel. Moses wrote of Abraham, and Jesus said to the Pharisees:
John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day: and he saw it, and was glad…. Continue reading
