Hearing Jesus Through The Scripture

John 17:1, 13-17 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee … 13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I HAVE GIVEN THEM THY WORD; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 SANCTIFY THEM THROUGH THY TRUTH : THY WORD IS TRUTH.

I have been amazed at the number of Christians who tell me that they have never heard the Voice of Jesus. Our Lord Jesus said:

(John 10:27-28 NKJV) My sheep HEAR MY VOICE, and I know them, and THEY FOLLOW ME. [28] And I GIVE THEM ETERNAL LIFE, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

And we are told in Romans 8:14 (NKJV), “For as many as are LED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD, THESE ARE THE SONS OF GOD”.

The Christian follows the voice of Christ. The Christian is led by the Holy Spirit of God. If you say, “I have never heard the Voice of Christ” then either Jesus is a liar or you are in an abnormal place. You may be saved, you may not be saved. But if you’re saved, you hear the Voice of Christ.

How do we hear the Voice of Christ? We must first hear the Word of God, the Voice of God. Before Jesus went to Calvary He prayed first the wonderful prayer of John 17. In that prayer Jesus said, … Continue reading

The Author, The Achiever, The Architect

I was at my doctor’s office this past Wednesday, and while I was waiting (and waiting) I was “redeeming the time” (Ephesians 5:15-16) by reading a good book. The book I’m currently reading is Thomas Watson’s “The Doctrine of Repentance”. Watson was a Puritan Pastor (1620-1686) who rejected the teachings of the Church of England, a spin off of the Catholic Church. He was persecuted as a “non-conformist” because he would not follow the state endorsed churches. Watson died at 66 years old, suddenly, while in his prayer closet with the Lord. The man loved Jesus! In talking about repentance, Watson wrote:

“Before a man can come to Christ, he must first come to himself. … where we cannot see our own sin, there can be no repentance. … Would it not be strange if two people lived together, and ate and drank together, yet did not know each other? But this is how it is with a sinner; his body and soul live together and work together, but still he does not know himself. He does not know his own heart, nor what a hell he carries within him. {Listen to this} People are veiled over with ignorance and self love; they do not see what deformed souls they have. The devil does with them what the falconer does with the hawk. He blindfolds them so they cannot see he is carrying them to hell…”

I like that statement about the sinner, whose “body and soul live together and work together, but still he does not know himself”. I really believe that the reason for the confusion in our country today (transgenderism, choose your pronouns, people trying to be animals or furries, boys in girls sports) is because people are desperately seeking identity, seeking who they are. Beloved,

You will never discover WHO you are until you discover the ONE WHO created you.

It is my prayer today that God give as many as are under the sound of my voice the gift of repentance. When the Apostle Peter was telling the Jewish Church how the Gentiles were being saved through the Gospel of Christ, the Church leaders praised God, saying,

Acts 11:18 (ESV) Then to the Gentiles also GOD HAS GRANTED REPENTANCE that leads to life…. Continue reading

God’s Wisdom and Understanding vs The Strange Woman

In Proverbs Chapter 7 God contrasts two women, one called Wisdom who is to be your sister and her kinswoman Understanding, to one unnamed STRANGE woman who wants to take advantage of you. The word translated “STRANGE” is the Hebrew zûwr {pronounced zoor} which is used in Scripture for strangers, foreigners, enemies, profane people. The “STRANGE WOMAN” uses her words to “FLATTER” you. This is the Hebrew châlaq {pronounced khaw-lak’}, which means “to separate, to draw away, to divide from what God wants for you”. Let’s look first at … Continue reading
